Set on the banks of the River Esk, this Georgian home already possessed the architectural integrity and elegance its owners had fallen in love with. What it lacked was a stronger sense of identity. It did not yet reflect the lives, passions and individuality of those who called it home.
What began as a decorative refresh quickly evolved into a comprehensive renovation and a deeply collaborative creative journey. Working closely with the owners over two years, the property was reimagined from the inside out, uncovering opportunities to improve not only the aesthetics but the way it functioned, flowed and felt.
The result is a home layered with atmosphere, character and meaning. Classical yet playful, sophisticated yet inviting, it reflects its owners in every detail. Rich with colour, craftsmanship and unexpected moments, this is a house with presence: confident, expressive and designed to enrich everyday life.
Early investigations uncovered significant issues beneath the surface, including damaged plumbing and outdated services. Rather than seeing this as a setback, it became an opportunity. The project expanded to include lighting design, mechanical and electrical upgrades, and a complete rethinking of how the house could support modern family life. It was a greater commitment, but one that allowed the full potential of the property to be realised.
Gillian always wears a flash of colour, whether it's bright nails, bold trainers or unexpected accessories, and that became an important thread throughout the interiors. There is a sophistication to the foundation of every room, but the details are what bring the scheme to life. The abstract artwork in the living room, the vibrant dining chairs that became the catalyst for the scheme, the pink pool table. These playful moments reflect the balance of elegance and individuality that runs throughout the house. Some of the most memorable moments are the ones that make people smile.
The success of the project lies not only in the transformation of the interiors, but in the atmosphere of the house itself. On arrival, it was undeniably beautiful but lacked a sense of warmth and belonging. Today, the terracotta hallway feels welcoming, the lighting creates ambience throughout the day, and the reimagined principal suite has become a true retreat. Every decision was made with care and intention. It's warm. It's full of character. You walk through the door and it feels like a hug.
