Hotel Bar at The Tempus, Northumberland

The Tempus Hotel

Set within 150 acres of Northumberland countryside, this was an opportunity to create a destination with its own unmistakable identity. Working alongside the owner from the earliest stages, PHINA helped transform a collection of former agricultural buildings into a fully immersive hospitality experience, encompassing a restaurant, bar, reception spaces and fifteen individually designed guest rooms.

Our ambition was to create a place people would remember, talk about and return to. Every space was considered through the lens of experience, balancing imagination with practicality, character with comfort, and storytelling with commercial success.

From richly layered interiors and bespoke detailing to carefully orchestrated guest journeys, every decision was made with purpose. The result is a hotel that feels both transportive and welcoming, where every room offers a different perspective, every corner invites discovery, and every visit leaves a lasting impression.

Creating memorable spaces is about far more than aesthetics. We carefully choreographed how guests move through the building, using light, scale, texture and architectural framing to create moments of anticipation and surprise. Every transition reveals a new atmosphere, from intimate and cocooning to vibrant and social, ensuring the experience unfolds naturally and leaves a lasting emotional impression.

Behind every expressive detail is rigorous design thinking. Working closely with the client, architect and wider consultant team from the earliest stages, we shaped layouts, resolved operational challenges and safeguarded the integrity of the vision at every step. The result demonstrates PHINA's belief that exceptional design emerges when creativity and functionality work hand in hand, creating spaces that are as commercially effective as they are emotionally resonant.
